Politics

Here you'll find my views on many aspects of politics and the current political system that we have in place. I'll be adding more topics as time goes on, so check back often. So here we go, my views on ...

Running For Office:

What can I say about Politics? Wow, don't get me started. Seriously, I think it is a real shame that we have allowed our political system to evolve to the point where the best qualified people will not even consider running for office. The mainstream media are constantly looking for something controversial about a prospective candidate so that they can deliver tantalizing headlines and cover stories. Anyone that tries to be honest about their ideas on important issues will soon find that some innocent comment they made has been twisted by "reporters" to the point that their original thought is unrecognizable and that they have now been portrayed as a villain. Those who do choose to run for office are careful to say publicly only those things that are "politically correct" and that are in line with what the mainstream media deems acceptable. This is a sad state of affairs. It leaves little room for original ideas to be presented. My question to you is this: Do you want candidates who are afraid to voice their true feelings on important issues?

Funding Campaigns:

Once again, we have created a political system that relies so heavily on the mainstream media that it is impossible for an honest candidate to get the exposure needed for election unless they are one of the media "darlings". To buy the air-time needed to get their message across, candidates must hold numerous "fund raising" events where people pay hundreds (or thousands) of dollars a plate just to be around their "man" or their "woman". Do you honestly think that people would pay that kind of money to attend a fund-raiser if they didn't hope to have some influence with the candidate? That's why so many "special interest" groups have been formed. They put an obscene amount of money into a candidate's campaign in order to have someone in power looking out for their best interests. All of which means that, again, in order to get elected to high office, a candidate has to be willing to compromise their values in some areas to appease the special interest groups that helped get them elected. My question to you is this: Do you want your elected officials to be obligated to vote on important issues in accordance with some special interest groups' agenda?

I have so much more to say about politics in general, and in the political system we currently have in place. Stay tuned.
